Over the past few years, the idea of self-care has become a big buzzword. We hear it from our friends, from our therapists, and even from our employers. But sometimes, it can feel overwhelming to figure out what meaningful self-care means; our busy brains can over-complicate everything. So, we have a list of ways of how to treat yourself. Not for your birthday or a promotion, but just because. Treat yourself because you deserve self-care and nice things.
1. Buy yourself flowers
Nothing cheers up a home or office like a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, and you are worth those flowers! Not only are they beautiful, but they smell good too. There are many places to find flowers: you can grab them while you are at the grocery store if that is all that you can afford! But we also recommend doing things like giving yourself a same day flower delivery. That way, you do not need to run any additional errands to get a lovely treat for yourself. Let the flowers meet you where you are at, and take pleasure in refilling their water and watching the bouquet fully bloom. Before the flowers die, you can take them out of the water, hang them upside down, and dry them! Dried flowers make very cute decorations on the window sill or in a bottle turned vase.
2. Take yourself on a date
Ok, we know it sounds a little corny and right out of a rom-com, but taking yourself on a fancy date can be so much fun! Find a spot in town, maybe someplace new, or somewhere you have been meaning to go forever but just never made it, and make yourself a reservation for one.
Before dinner pamper yourself: do what you would do before a date. After all, you do have a hot date: yourself. Wash your hair, get dressed into something cute, put on a new lipstick color, and take a selfie. We know there can be some stigma or self-conscious thoughts that are engrained about eating alone, and there is nothing wrong with you if that comes up. However, the key to enjoying your date for one is to mentally commit. Do not slink around embarrassed that you are out to dinner by yourself. You are out to dinner by yourself, enjoying your own beautiful company. Going somewhere you are excited about eating will make it all the sweeter. And speaking of sweeter, treat yourself to dessert, especially if that is not something you normally do.
Moisturizing yourself is a form of pampering. Slowly and gently applying lotion to your whole body is a very calming and grounding experience. It takes time out of your day to give yourself some kind touches and hydrate your skin while you are at it! Buying fancy lotions does not need to break the bank, but you also want to make sure that you are only putting body-safe and nourishing ingredients on your skin. We have some recommendations of organic and natural moisturizers for summer for you to check out if you are not sure where to start!
4. Go Outside
Work that daily walk into your schedule. Making sure that you get outside and stop looking at your screen for even ten minutes a day can have a fantastic impact on your mental health. This is a small way to treat yourself consistently, every day! Breathing fresh air, seeing plants, trees, and other greenery, and just having a change of scenery can be so refreshing. We recommend incorporating it into your daily routine because that way, it is harder to blow off!
Ensuring you treat yourself every once and a while is a great way to take care of your body and mind. Rest assured that this is not a selfish thing to do. It’s actually quite necessary for your well-being. By implementing all or a few of the tips mentioned above, you can start treating yourself better.
